Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council and a close ally of Vladimir Putin, posted on the Kremlin-backed site Max urging US President Donald Trump to order the assassination of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the Daily Mail and RBC-Ukraine, he said Trump should summon the secretary of war and the CIA director and tell them to deal with what he called an unfortunate little problem, adding that the method and place did not matter.
Medvedev said Zelensky had pressed Trump for money and weapons to keep the war against Russia going, had told Trump and his aides to get lost when they raised proposals for negotiating an end to the conflict, and through reckless behavior had brought the United States and NATO to the brink of a global nuclear confrontation with Russia. He also accused the Ukrainian leader and what he called his Nazi gang of taking enormous sums from Americans while treating the US president with contempt.
The Daily Beast said it had asked the White House for comment. The post came not long after Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, met Putin in St. Petersburg last week, told him he was a humanitarian as well, and said he saluted and commended him.
The article also noted Trump’s repeated criticism of Zelensky over the war Putin started in 2022. Trump has called for Zelensky to be replaced as peace negotiator and as Ukraine’s president, while praising Russia and saying it had been fine on Ukraine and had not been doing much in terms of wartime aggression.
