Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that Starlink and Starshield satellite communication services have been restored to the speeds available before restrictions were imposed. He thanked the United States and other partners for their help.
In a post on X, Zelensky said the restoration began overnight and that by morning the speeds were already sufficient and where they needed to be. He said this matters for frontline logistics and for defending Ukraine against jet-powered Shaheds.
He thanked Americans and partners who took the issue seriously, including members of Congress, senators, the media, the State Department and the President, and said protecting lives matters.
Earlier in the week, Zelensky said he held a substantive conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. They discussed ballistic missile interceptors, early warning of Russian ballistic missile attacks, and restoration of the satellite services used by Ukrainian forces.
Zelensky said he was grateful for Rubio’s readiness to help and his clear position. He named three points: interceptors needed to protect lives, early warning of Russian ballistic missile attacks, and the Starlink and Starshield situation that needed to be restored. He said this came against the backdrop of diplomatic efforts to end the war and the constant killing of people.
He said they agreed to get in touch again soon for an update, and thanked Rubio for the constructive discussion and Americans who support fair approaches. His remarks underlined Kyiv’s continuing reliance on American military assistance, intelligence and satellite communications to defend against Russian attacks.
