Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has said he plans to attend the Russia-Africa Summit and appeal directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin for a ceasefire in the ongoing war in Ukraine. He framed the appeal as part of Ghana’s commitment to peace and dialogue.
The disclosure came as Mahama spoke at the Africa Summit in a session broadcast by Citi Live. He also urged governments and investors not to hold back from Africa, noting Chinese and Indian engagement and saying Ghana’s doors remain open to partnerships with the European Union, the United States and Russia.
Observers said the pairing of open economic ties with this diplomatic message shows Accra seeking to be seen as a credible and neutral partner.
